<p>The article analyses DNA phenotyping – a technology for predicting a person’s externally visible characteristics from traces of biological origin collected during crime investigations. It examines the genetic basis of eye, hair and skin pigmentation and of facial morphology, and describes the HIrisPlex‑S, Parabon Snapshot and Difface systems, ranging from forensically validated test systems to research models of facial reconstruction. The practice and legal regulation of the technology in the USA, the Netherlands, Germany, the United Kingdom and China. Special attention is paid to the legal and ethical problems associated with the processing of genetic data, the risk of discrimination on ethnic grounds, and the probabilistic nature of expert conclusions. Based on a comparison of foreign regulation with Russian legislation (the Criminal Procedure Code, the Federal Laws «On State Genomic Registration in the Russian Federation» and «On Personal Data»), proposals are formulated for adapting the technology to domestic law enforcement practice: directions for improving criminal procedure regulation, requirements for the scientific and technical base of expert institutions, and personnel training. It is concluded that the introduction of DNA phenotyping in Russia is possible only if the legal framework, methodological validation and ethical safeguards for citizens’ rights are developed simultaneously.</p>
<kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>ДНК‑фенотипирование</kwd><kwd>генетический фоторобот</kwd><kwd>криминалистика</kwd><kwd>судебная экспертиза</kwd><kwd>молекулярная генетика</kwd><kwd>внешние признаки человека</kwd><kwd>HIrisPlex‑S</kwd><kwd>генетические данные</kwd><kwd>персональные данные</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>DNA phenotyping</kwd><kwd>genetic photofit</kwd><kwd>forensic science</kwd><kwd>forensic examination</kwd><kwd>molecular genetics</kwd><kwd>externally visible characteristics</kwd><kwd>HIrisPlex‑S</kwd><kwd>genetic data</kwd><kwd>personal data</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><ref id="ref1"><mixed-citation publication-type="other" xml:lang="ru">[1] Лавелина, В. В. 2022. № 3.
