<p>The article examines the legal nature of smart contracts and assesses the pros pects for their application in the agro-industrial complex under conditions of digital transformation of public administration and contractual relations. The relevance of the topic is determined by the fact that the agro-industrial complex combines a high dependence on public support measures, multi-stage supply chains, strict traceability requirements, and a significant volume of standardized obligations suitable for automated execution. At the same time, the legal regime of a smart contract remains controversial: it is interpreted as a technical form of fixing contractual terms, as a special mode of algorithmic performance of a civil lawagreement, and as an element of digital infrastructure for public oversight. The purpose of the study is to identify the limits of the legal autonomy of a smart contract, determine itsplace in the system of contractual regulation of the agro-industrial complex, and formulate the conditions under which its use is lawful and institutionally efficient. The theoretical basis includes Russian and foreign scholarship in digital law, contract law, public administration, and agricultural economics. The methodological framework combines formal legal analysis, comparative legal analysis, structural and functional analysis, dynamic analysis, and an index approach. The empirical and documentary basis consists of normative legal acts of the Russian Federation, open materials of federal executive authorities, data from official digital public systems in procurement, veterinary traceability, and agricultural digitalization, aswell asofficial statistical publications. The study demonstrates that a smart contract in the agro-industrial complex does notconstitute an in dependent type of contract; rather, itshould be understood as a legal and technical mechanism for programmable performance of obligations, admissible only where the subject matter is clearly determinable, the fact of performance can be represented in machine-readable form, the parties are reliably identified in the digital environment, and procedures for legal contestation are preserved. The findings show that the greatest practical potential is concentrated in standardized supply contracts, agricultural machinery leasing, digital traceability of product batches, and certain procedures of public procurement.</p>
<kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>смарт-контракт</kwd><kwd>блокчейн</kwd><kwd>контрактация</kwd><kwd>цифровизация</kwd><kwd>прослежи ваемость</kwd><kwd>государство</kwd><kwd>регулирование</kwd><kwd>право</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>smart contract</kwd><kwd>blockchain</kwd><kwd>agribusiness</kwd><kwd>contracting</kwd><kwd>digitalization</kwd><kwd>traceability</kwd><kwd>regulation</kwd><kwd>law</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><ref id="ref1"><mixed-citation publication-type="other" xml:lang="ru">Klepikova, O., Harahonych, O., Antoshyna, I.
